We Must Never Sacrifice The Present For The Future

In mid-March I was walking through Becontree and found a piece of rubble. A former piece of road, discarded on the side of a road. Aggregate, looking like a precious ruin. This was the last site visit before Covid-19 and this ruin has been with me since, on my living room floor as my studio has been closed.

On the 22nd April 2020 I went to an Architecture Foundation lunchtime discussion virtually with Ken Worpole talking about Colin Ward who I'd been re-reading over lockdown. This quote from Ken, of Colin's has stuck with me and I drew it out in my diary on that same day.
